Kidderminster Forest Quilters
History

Founded in the autumn of 1992, by a small group of enthusiastic quilters, Forest Quilters has grown in expertise, enterprise, versatility and size. We now have approximately forty members, all keen to persue and promote the art of quilting and textile skills in general.

We meet every first and third Tuesday of the month 7.30pm-9.30pm at Trinity Methodist Church Hall, Churchfields, Kidderminster. Our programme is varied and includes presentations and workshops by quest speakers, as well as informal and enjoyable Sit and Sew evenings where group and individual projects are undertaken.
We also arrange visits to quilt/textile exhibitions, held throughout the country, which are a great source of inspiration. Our most ambitious venture in 2001, was a trip to the USA, visiting places of quilting interest including an Amish community in Illinois and THE quilt show in Paducah, Kentucky - a truly wonderful experience!

Over the years it has been our pleasure and privilege to make beautiful quilts and give them away! (to worthwhile causes) We have sent quilts to Rachels House, a hospice in Romania, and to impoverished people in Belarus, Russia. We have also donated quilts to Kemp Hospice and to the Acorn Hospice in Worcester. Quilts have been raffled to raise funds for charities such as NSPCC and the Spina Bifida Association.
Some of these collections of quilts were displayed in one of three major exhibitions staged at St Marys Church in 2000, at the corn exchange, Kidderminster Town Hall in 2002 and at Trinity Methodist Church Hall in 2008. A fourth exhibition is planned for 2010.

Forest Quilters are now involved in the Kidderminster-Husum Twinning Association. Links have been made with a group of Husum quilters, four of whom visited Kidderminster in May 2008 at the time of the Malvern Quilt Festival. A return visit by eleven Forest Quilters took place in April 2009.
